Life, Elevated: Hypoxia Research in the Peruvian Andes

August 29, 2019

I accompanied Dr. Tatum Simonson and members of her lab to the Peruvian Andes in March 2019, where they conducted research on the causes, symptoms, and prospective treatments of hypoxia for high-altitude populations. Meanwhile, I conducted extensive team and study participant interviews (in addition to capturing multimedia content) to put together a video, photo gallery, and written stories (all hosted on a dedicated website) for Dr. Simonson to share with representatives at National Geographic upon our return.

The team's research in Peru supported its overarching project, "Seq-ing Discovery: A Genetic Journey from Mount Everest to Machu Picchu," of which I'm a designated project member. The project received the National Geographic Explorer grant in 2018.
